Aglianico is considered to be one of the 3 noble black grapes of Italy, along with Sangiovese, and Nebbiolo. It is prolific in Southern Italy’s Basilicata and Campania, where it is thought to have originated. It has been appreciated and admired since Roman times, reported to be a favourite of Pliny the Elder. This structural red has firm tannins and bright acidity, with savoury notes of black fruit, white pepper, leather, and cured meats.
