The property traces its origin back to the 11th Century. It has been at times used as a fortress, farmhouse, flour mill, distillery, residence and, now, a winery. The farmhouse and estate were bought by the Segura brothers in the 1950s. New cellars and wineries were soon built and the most up-to-date machinery installed. The brothers began marketing their own cava. In 1969 they proudly launched the iconic Segura Viudas Heredad premium cava.
The Denomination of Origin Penedès is situated between coastal hills and the narrow plains of the Mediterranean coast. The influence of the Sea creates a mild, warm climate that is ideal for the vineyards. The soils consist primarily of limestone, clay and sand. Thus, the grapes for Segura Viudas Cava are grown in ideal conditions. Segura Viudas believes that the grapes native to the region need to be the foundational element of their wines, complemented by the meticulous selection of vineyards.
Segura Viudas has always focused on quality, giving expression to the qualities of their ancestral vineyards and the special indigenous vines grown there, while utilizing the most modern technology.
